ENERGY STAR qualified windows & doors save you energy and money, increase the comfort of your home, and protect your valuable possessions from sun damage. They are also better for the environment because lowering your energy use means less air pollution from power plants.

Residential Windows & Doors Product Criteria

The ENERGY STAR criteria for residential windows and doors are tailored to four Climate Zones. A product's energy efficiency for a given climate is based on its impact on heat gain and loss in cold weather and heat gain in warm weather. Windows that are energy efficient in Florida will not necessarily be energy efficient in Michigan and vice-versa.

Climate Zones for ENERGY STAR Qualification Criteria

The four Climate Zones for ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors, and skylights are:
  • Northern: mostly heating
  • North/Central: heating and cooling
  • South/Central: cooling and heating
  • Southern: mostly cooling

TAX CREDIT

Tax Credit Information

Tax credits are available for many types of home improvements including entry doors, storm doors, storm windows and replacement windows. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has enabled taxpayers to obtain an extension of the 2009 tax credit when purchasing qualifying energy efficient products.

Listed below are guidelines taxpayers will need to follow in order to be eligible for the 2009-2010 tax credits:
  1. Purchase and install qualifying products beginning January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010. Tax credit is for the cost of product only - it does not include installation costs. Tax credit is for taxpayer's principal residence only.
  2. Tax credit is 30% of product cost or a maximum amount of $1500.00 in 2009 and 2010.
  3. Taxpayer must have a manufacturer's statement to qualify (click here for Tax Credit Certificates).

ProVia Door, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2002, is honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency by producing doors that earn the ENERGY STAR, the government-backed symbol of energy efficiency. The 2009 Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. Award winners are selected from more than 12,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
