SUGARCREEK, OHIO (June 18, 2007) – In a June 18 award ceremony, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) presented their Star award to Precision Entry, Inc. for meeting the highest standards of the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
VPP promotes effective worksite-based safety and health. In the VPP, management, labor, and OSHA establish cooperative relationships at workplaces that have implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system. Approval into VPP is OSHA’s official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health.
The Star status is VPP’s highest recognition. Precision is only one of 70 companies in the state of Ohio to receive this award. Precision is the first company nationally in their industrial classification, and is the 1st in Holmes County to receive this award.
Senator Ron Amstutz of Ohio’s 22nd District was the guest speaker of the event. The Senator presented a letter of commendation on behalf of the Senate honoring Precision Entry for exemplary achievement. He noted, "Safety is part of living responsibly, and can be compared to stewardship which is being responsible for what we’ve been entrusted with." In his closing remarks, the Senator added, "You are being recognized for something that was voluntary on your part. Thank you for doing the right thing."
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony were State Representative Bob Gibbs, of Ohio’s 97th District; representatives for Congressman Zack Space of Ohio’s 18th Congressional District; and Joe Miller, Holmes County Commissioner.
Deborah Zubaty, OSHA’s Area Director, presented the VPP Star award and flag to the organization, and commented, "OSHA’s VPP program only honors the best of the best. Very few companies achieve this high status – Precision Entry is now a member of this elite club. Precision truly deserves this recognition because the process was very difficult. Your president, Bill Mullet, is to be commended because an effective safety and health program starts at the top. Employees have bought into the program, and this organization has achieved an incident rate that is significantly below the national average."
Bill Mullet stated in the ceremony, "When the opportunity presented itself for us to participate in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program, we welcomed the opportunity to prove that we meet the highest standards of occupational health and safety. We have never been a company to merely meet standards and expectations – we strive to exceed them, thus setting a higher standard for ourselves and others. We want this philosophy to be evident throughout our organization, and truly communicate our core beliefs of serving others and being a Christ-like example in our daily actions."
Mullet added that the organization would not be satisfied until their two subsidiary facilities, Sugarcreek Industries and Monarch IG, also achieve the same VPP Star status. Precision Entry and Sugarcreek Industries are both located in Sugarcreek, Ohio. Precision Entry manufactures and distributes a complete line of quality steel and fiberglass entry door systems. Sugarcreek Industries manufactures storm doors, storm windows, replacement windows and patio doors. Monarch IG, manufacturers insulating glass units for Precision & Sugarcreek. Combined, they employ approximately 400 people.
