What is LEED?
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a non-profit/non-government agency developed by USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) in 1998 to encourage sustainable building practices in a number of different markets.
The LEED green building certification program is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings. It is a voluntary certification program that can be applied to any building type and any building life-cycle phase. It promotes the a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in key categories. In order for a building to become LEED certified, it must meet specific prerequisites and achieve specified performance levels to qualify for rating points.
All rating categories can achieve 1 of 4 levels of certification. ProVia Door products can contribute to LEED points in 3 credit categories, helping your project satisfy all prerequisites to be certified. The three categories ProVia products contribute to are as follows:
Energy and Atmosphere (EA) - This credit category encourages a variety of energy strategies such as, reducing carbon impact and energy consumption.
Material and Resources (MR)- This credit category encourages of sustainably grown, harvested, produced and transported products and materials. Reuse and recycle existing building materials. Use more recycled content.
Regional Priority (RP) - This credit category encourages use of regional products to reduce carbon impact of fossil fuels in transportation and to support local economies. Map to right shows Regional Priority. 500 Mile Radius
We are here to help you build LEED-certified projects which are designed to:
- Lower operating costs and increase asset value.
- Reduce waste sent to landfills.
- Conserve energy and water.
- Be healthier and safer for occupants.
- Reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
- Qualify for tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives in hundreds of cities.
- Demonstrate an owner's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
