The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009

President Obama signed into a law the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 which modifies the tax credits for windows, doors, and skylights established in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 for the 2009 & 2010 tax years.  These tax credits are for qualifying product that is compliant with the requirements of:

Guidelines:

Taxpayers will need to follow the criteria below in order to be eligible for the 2009-2010 tax credits.
  1. Purchase and install qualifying products through December 31, 2010. Tax credit is for the cost of product only - it does not include installation costs. Tax credit is for taxpayer's principal residence only.
  2. Tax credit is 30% of product cost with a maximum amount of $1,500.00 over the two year period of 2009 and 2010. (Amount includes roofing, insulation, HVAC, and water heater improvements.)

Documentation:

Homeowners must obtain a manufacturer's certification statement to document window or door eligibility for the tax credit.
