On December 17th, 2010, President Obama signed H.R. 4853: "Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act" creating a continuation of window, skylights, and door energy tax credits that were originally developed from The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
This act enables homeowners to receive a tax credit for 10% of the product cost or a maximum amount of $200 for qualifying windows and 10% of the product costs or a maximum amount of $500 for qualifying entry doors (cannot exceed $500 total tax credit). If the homeowner has taken a tax credit of $500 or more for any energy efficiency products in the 2006 through 2010 tax years they are not eligible for this tax credit in 2011.
1. Purchase and install qualifying products beginning January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011. The tax credit is for the cost of products only - it does not include installation costs. The tax credit is for the taxpayer's principal residence only.
2. The homeowner must have a Manufacturer's Certification Statement to qualify. This is a signed statement from ProVia Door certifying that the product or component listed qualifies for the 2011 tax credit. The taxpayer must keep a copy of this certification statement and purchase receipts for their records, but does not have to submit a copy with their tax return
